Tea, Food and Memories

Please observe: Updated in green text below.

These are more pictures from pre-celebration of the Chinese New Year. As pre-celebration I thought we could take some other food than what are traditonally eaten on The Chinese New Year day otherwise.

Anyway, it was in a restaurant that serves chinese food, but even some japanese sushi, which reminds me of the taiwanese cuisine, which although clearly of chinese food traditon but due to Taiwan being under the japanese occupation for quite a great period of time, may contain some japanese enfluence.

And all these of course bring some memories of great ancestors during that time, specially around the later part of the 2nd world war, which stories often times are heard from parents, and it remains in the heart as part of you.

Update: Aside from these mentioned though, as recension from this blog which has east asian culture and zen buddhistic mission, I have to say that aesthetically these sushi were presented a bit more extravagantly than it should be, but this is probably because the sushi chef of this restaurant has thai background, so that should be considered in this version.

Sushi otherwise, the japanese and taiwanese way, is more preferrably served very simple. Any aesthetic attemp may of course be done, but still in a much much more careful and discrete way.

I just thought it is important that I mention this, as food I believe is the energy that we take and later exert. How it is presented is therefore very relevant and important. And this is why I am very sceptical when the norwegian chef Eyvind Hellström, on the tv program Hellström Rydder opp, advices a chinese restaurant to serve noodle in french restaurant portion. Had it been french food, I won´t say anything, as it is how it should be in french reataurants.

But so as in east asia too, food is served according to the philosophy it stand: noodle - symbolizes longlife and endless fortune and therefore should be served with abundance. And Sushi - has much buddhistic influence and therefore served simplier in cultures like the Japanese och Taiwanese.

Anyway as for tea, I have always preferred japanese tea with japanese food of course, as I always believe food and drink culture in each and every land grows hand in hand together, and therefore studied to complement each other perfectly.
More recension on japanese teas coming up, meanwhile I hope everyone is happy with what this year is so far giving you ....

Dancong and Food: A reciprocal complement!

And so here is more from the chinese lunar new year celebration. Spicy hot chicken with cashew nuts and Woked noodle with biff. When there are too much variation of food like this, nothing is more better tea to drink with them than a Dancong.

As said before I find this tea tastes quiet neutral when drank alone, but marvelously highlights any food that you eat with this tea, and so the food lightlights the tea. In short, they kind of complement each other. It is therefore a perfect tea for occassions like this when there are just too many variations of food being served.

Try it .... and enjoy!

Svar: Nej, Jag spelar aldrig.

Red Sticky Rice for a Happy Chinese New Year!

It´s the 3rd of February today, on swedish time zone, and it´s The Chinese New Year. It´s auspicious to eat sticky rice specially this special red rice from China. Red is considered fortunate as color in chinese culture.

This red rice is boiled or can also be steamed, in red wine, red berries juice, some teaspoon of cooking oil, a sprinkle of salt and some cups of red sugar, topped with crushed fresh pineapple, roasted nuts and sesame seeds, which are also lucky symbols in chinese.

White sticky rice is alright, and everything is to taste, so try it at home! ... and for tea, I suggest white tea would be excellent! *:)

Tea and Good Shoes: For nice, warm and positive thinking!

Tomorrow, on the 3rd of February, is The Chinese New Year, and pre-celebrations are already happening. This is at the Nordby Shopping Center in Strömstad, Sweden, where we spotted many beautiful things including these pretty shoes.

Although fine on cities, obviously not the right shoes for the winter wilds though, which might be the first amusing mistake one may make when first time in the countryside.

Another thing to learn in this winter country, specially at spring and autumn when cold is easily catched ( not of cold weather though, but most probably transmission possibilities are more likely when people are much indoor due to humidity outdoor), is what an elderly lady friend tought me how to enjoy winter outdoor:

... a good winter coat, warm cap that covers your head and ears, a thick scarf around the neck, winter gloves, warm socks and shoes ... which as far as the shoes is concern, one really learn after a while that what´s functional during winter is types like these shoes for women or this and this for men maybe or this.

In swedish they express it as: Det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder, which litterally means- There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothings.

.... anyway, add all that with: Regular tea drinking - and you´ll get through humid seasons just fine and be able to enjoy all these different magical sights of snow, which the Sami on the north of Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia has a rich number of names for, such as for: soft snow, hard snow, snow on the tree, melting snow, newly fallen snow and more ...

I´ll check what are they and blogg them here when I did so, together with more about these great people, their culture, shoes, tea manner and everything, meanwhile enjoy these names of different snows the alaskans also have!
